Hello, and thanks for visiting!

I’m Caye. I write Sci Fi and Fantasy that celebrates queer communities and proclaims my awe for the natural world. I love the serenity of reading a good book and the tranquility of being in the uncultivated wild, which are both different flavors of peace and quiet. If I’m in town, I’m probably at the botanical gardens. I like building Legos, doodling floral motifs, and looking in tidal pools.

In 2023, I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand and I am inspired and sustained by the breathtaking scenery and unique ecosystems here. My current favorite bird is the kererū, a massive fancy pigeon with a lot of personality.

I sometimes get asked about my username, Arachne, which you will see if you find me on social media. I chose it long ago because I find spider biology very cool and interesting. Big, showy orb weavers from the eastern US are quite beautiful, and jumping spiders are adorable and funny. Also I find Arachne of myth and legend to be a heroic figure. She spoke truth to power and was punished for it. Maybe I’ll write a story about her sometime.

I enjoy reading genre fiction, especially mash-ups. Science Fiction or Fantasy mixed with Romance or Historical are all great. If you like my books, you might also like some of these books that I’ve enjoyed:

  • The Mimicking of Known Successes – Malka Older
  • Witch King – Martha Wells
  • Navigational Entanglements – Aliette deBodard
  • The Dawnhounds – Sascha Stronach
  • Black Sun – Rebecca Roanhorse
  • The Empress of Salt and Fortune – Nghi Vo
  • What Moves the Dead – T. Kingfisher
  • The Locked Tomb series – Tamsyn Muir
